Santen’s presence at EuCornea and ESCRS 2018 underpinned by innovation and scientific excellence

Tue 30 October 2018

Following the European Glaucoma Society's (EGS) annual meeting and World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC), Santen was delighted to meet healthcare professionals from all over Europe and share some of our latest data at the European Society of Ocular and Surface Disease Specialists (EuCornea) and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) congresses.

ESCRS

At EuCornea, our lunchtime symposium A spotlight on dry eye disease: The role of ciclosporin A, was attended by an impressive quarter of delegates onsite. The esteemed faculty included Professor José Manuel Benítez del Castillo (Spain), Professor Marc Labetoulle (France), Dr Sajjad Ahmad (UK) and Professor Beatrice Früh (Chair, Switzerland), discussed data showing that Ikervis® (ciclosporin A) can preserve ocular surface integrity by breaking the vicious cycle of inflammation, a move required to effectively manage this disease.

At ESCRS, we showcased Santen's commitment to the ophthalmology community with launch of the Santen Microshunt®, a state-of-the-art surgical device, designed in collaboration with ophthalmologists, that helps to drain eye fluid and reduce intraocular pressure for patients suffering from primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).* A supporting symposia entitled Glaucoma treatment: from eye drops to surgical intervention, when and what to do? explored the spectrum of glaucoma treatments, from eye drops to surgical intervention, with glaucoma surgery and MIGS pioneer Ike Ahmed (Canada) sharing the latest innovations in glaucoma surgery.

Shedding light on the management of dry eye disease, was chaired by Dr Nataliya Maychuk (Russia) and featured Professor Stefano Barabino (Italy), Professor Parwez Hossain (United Kingdom), Professor Uwe Pleyer (Germany). The expert panel presented data positioning Cationorm® ( Cationic Emulsion) as the first choice in advanced generation tears due to its ability to spread across the ocular surface and effectively control dry eye disease.

We look forward to coming together with the leaders and innovators in ophthalmology at congress next year!

* Please note that the launch of the Santen Microshunt® is being phased to allow us to fulfil our duty of care as respected partners to the HCP and patient communities – by providing surgeons with robust training and experience with the device.
